Prestolite Electric is a partner brand of the industry giant Leece-Neville. Prestolite Electric is a manufacturer specializing in the production of pieces, parts, and hardware for the heavy-duty, medium-duty, and light-duty trucking industries in the category of electronics and accessories.
Leece-Neville was founded in 1909 and Prestolite Electric — then known as Electric Autolite — was founded only two short years later in 1911. At first, Prestolite Electric only produced one product: a generator for antique auto lamps. As the years went on, Prestolite Electric's product catalog would change significantly. So too would the company's ownership.
The Prestolite Electric brand has changed hands a handful of times. In 1961, the Electric Autolite was sold to Ford. In 1963, Electric Autolite merged with the Merganthaler Linotype Company, paving the path for the creation of the Prestolite Motor and Ignition Company. That company was then purchased by its own investors, the name was changed to Prestolite, Inc., and ownership bounced around a bit more before finally partnering with Leece-Neville.
Today, Prestolite Electric manufactures products under a variety of brand names, though the company's most notable partnership is with the electrical division of Leece-Neville. Prestolite Electric manufactures alternators and starter motors for Leece-Neville and is one of the company's exclusive partner brands in those two categories of production.
