The Gunite Brake Drum serves as the rotating friction surface in drum brake systems installed on heavy commercial vehicles. During vehicle movement, the drum rotates with the wheel hub, while the braking components remain positioned inside the drum cavity. When braking pressure is applied, the brake shoes move outward and contact the interior braking surface. This contact creates friction, slowing the rotating hub and wheel assembly. Heat produced during this interaction dissipates through the drum body as the vehicle slows. Drum brake assemblies are positioned at the axle ends where braking force must be transmitted through the hub and wheel structure. The Gunite 3598BX functions as the rotating braking component within drum brake systems used on trucks and trailers.
