When the brake chamber pushrod moves the camshaft, the cam spreads the shoes outward so the friction lining contacts the drum surface. It positions those shoes inside the brake assembly so braking force is distributed across the drum as the wheel rotates. Each braking cycle presses the lining material against the drum while the assembly converts mechanical motion into friction. Within the brake housing, the Hendrickson S-32486-3 forms the friction component that allows the brake system to generate stopping force.
