Drum brake performance depends on the stability of the shoe under load, and the Meritor Drum Brake Shoe provides the structural base required for consistent braking in heavy-duty trailer applications. This 16.5-inch brake shoe uses a stamped and coined steel table designed to limit deflection as braking force is applied. The shoe web is welded to the table to keep the assembly aligned as it expands against the drum during operation. Friction lining is attached using rivets selected to hold securely as temperatures rise and fall through repeated brake cycles. Maintaining proper shoe shape allows the lining to contact the drum evenly rather than loading one edge. The Meritor R4709 shoe is supplied as a foundation component ready to accept compatible linings for service.
