Gunite Automatic Slack Adjuster
Converting linear movement from the brake chamber is the Gunite Automatic Slack Adjuster. When compressed air pushes the chamber rod outward, the adjuster rotates the camshaft, spreading the brake shoes against the braking surface. During repeated braking cycles, friction components gradually shift position as they wear. The automatic adjustment mechanism compensates for that change, so the braking system maintains consistent movement distance during operation. This connection allows the braking force generated by the air chamber to travel through the linkage and into the camshaft mechanism at the wheel end. The Gunite AS1173 maintains motion transfer between the chamber output and camshaft rotation in commercial air brake systems.
