When the driver applies the brake pedal, air pressure travels through the brake system and enters the chamber. This pressure moves an internal diaphragm that pushes a rod connected to the braking mechanism. The movement transfers force outward to apply the brakes. Once air pressure is released, the internal components return to their resting position, allowing the brakes to disengage. The chamber works as part of a larger air brake system and reacts directly to changes in air pressure. On MAXX22T axles, the Hendrickson S-40881-U translates air pressure into braking motion.
