Product Spotlight: United Pacific 28006 13" Drop Sunvisor

One of the inconveniences of driving a medium to heavy duty truck is the constant exposure to the sun. Even with major advances in cab design improvements over the years, drivers still have to deal with the blinding glare and sweltering heat from driving all day. Thankfully, aftermarket sun visors are widely available that help minimize or even eliminate these inconveniences altogether. For Peterbilt trucks, there's the United Pacific 28006 drop sunvisor.

Designed for Peterbilt 379, 385, and 357 truck models, the 28006  13" drop sunvisor from United Pacific offers unparalleled protection against sunlight and rain. This sunvisor features a unique drop style and consists of one solid stainless steel panel that makes up the visor body and the installation brackets and hardware. It is also designed to be mounted directly onto compatible cabs without the need for extensive modifications or special tools for fast and hassle-free installation.

If it's a sun visor for a Peterbilt truck, the United Pacific 28006 visor is a solid choice to make. This guide breaks down some key information about the United Pacific 28006 13" sun visor and why it can be the right choice for your ride.

What is a drop visor?

One of the popular misconceptions about truck sunvisors, especially those unfamiliar with the industry, is that they all have the same style. On the contrary, visors come in all styles that give the cab a distinct look. The drop visor is just one of them. Also known as a drop center visor, the drop visor is characterized by a straight top with a dropped "V" shape at the bottom from which it gets its name. This contrasts with the bowtie visor, which is another popular style with an inverted "V" design on the top, bottom, or both sides of the visor. But just like the bowtie, the drop visor is also typically "slammed" or mounted very close to the windshield glass.

Because of its dropped "V" design, the drop visor provides a large amount of shade to the cab interior. Its slanted profile and slammed configuration also make it more aerodynamic. However, installing or repairing a drop visor may prove a challenge because it is mounted close to the window.

Why install a new visor?

A new aftermarket truck visor can be quite expensive, but it provides several benefits that make up for the cost in the long run.

  • Improved protection against rain and sunlight. United Pacific drop visors tend to be wider than factory visors, leading to better coverage against glare from the sun and rainfall. Drop visors are also slightly angled, which helps draw raindrops away from the windshield for a clearer view of the road ahead.
  • Improved aerodynamics. Because it hugs the window closely, the United Pacific drop visor creates less drag than the factory visor. This may help improve fuel efficiency and reduce noise when traveling at high speeds.
  • More durable than stock visors. The United Pacific 28006 drop visor is made of high-grade stainless steel, which is highly resistant to rust and wear. It's also covered by a manufacturer warranty and return policy, so if you're unsatisfied with it, you have the option of sending it back to United Pacific for a refund.
  • A stylish new look. With clean lines and a polished finish, the 28006 visor won't look out of place on any Peterbilt truck. The visor panels can also be painted to match the cab's color or achieve a more customized look.

The feel of stainless steel

Truck visors are typically made of aluminum or stainless steel. The United Pacific 28006 Peterbilt visor is made of high-grade stainless steel, which offers significant advantages. Stainless steel, which contains a mix of iron, chromium, nickel, and other metals, has better structural strength than aluminum and is less likely to get bent or dented. This does come at the cost of being heavier, so brackets for stainless steel visors tend to be reinforced. Both aluminum and stainless steel are also highly rust-resistant, although aluminum tends to turn white and become pitted, especially when exposed to acidic air. Also, stainless steel reflects heat better than aluminum, which may help keep the cab cool during the sweltering summer months.

How to install the visor?

Installing the Universal Pacific Peterbilt visor is straightforward and comes with its own set of brackets. Be sure to follow the instructions below:

  1. Loosen the bolts from the factory visor and carefully remove the visor from the cab.
  2. With the brackets exposed, use a die grinder with a cutoff wheel to gradually shave off the heads of the bolts that hold the brackets to the roof. We recommend placing a non-flammable cover on the glass before starting to prevent sparks from flying into the windshield.
  3. Mount the new brackets into the cab. Take note that the two center brackets have a cab-type mounting. If your truck does not have enough rivet holes to accommodate all of the brackets, you will need to drill a new rivet hole to allow the new brackets to fit.
  4. Tighten the bolts holding the brackets. We recommend applying a small bead of silicone sealant around the bolts first, as this will prevent moisture from seeping through the gaps later on.
  5. Mount the visor panel onto the brackets. Install – but don't tighten – the bolts on the outer end of each panel to their respective brackets, followed by the ones in the center. Once all the bolts are in place, align the visor panel and tighten all the bolts until they are sufficiently snug.
  6. Remove the protective coating from the windshield and clean up any smudges on the glass and the panels with Windex and a soft cotton cloth.
