Turning off the oil service light is no longer a simple task using the buttons on the indicator stalk or dashboard. Many new systems require a scan tool to reset specific service items and various counters that are used to indicate the condition of oil, spark plugs and many other service parts. For certain European vehicles there is no other option than to use a scan tool to complete some of the complex condition based service items. In some cases if a customer exceeds a service interval by too many miles then a scan tool is required to confirm that the vehicle has returned to a service shop to have the correct maintenance carried out.
